Brendan was interviewed by Caitlin Nienaber on RTRFM’s Breakfast show this morning.
Brendan and Caitlin talked about the sequel to Carousel, Beyond Carousel (out now in all good bookshops!). They also discussed how two overseas musicians could end up in the sprawling mall of Carousel shopping centre, and what post-apocalyptic Perth might look like.

Beyond Carousel started rolling out into bookstores from the 1st of October. Of course, if you’re in Perth you can come along this Wednesday to the official launch at Beaufort Street Books. You can even get your copy signed by Brendan himself (honestly, it would be kind of weird if someone else signed it). Remember to register as there are very few spots left!
If you’re outside of Perth, head out and support your favourite local bookshop by picking up a copy. You can usually find Beyond Carousel in the Young Adult section. If they don’t already have it in stock, give them a friendly nudge and they’ll order it in for you.

You’re invited to the launch of Brendan Ritchie’s Beyond Carousel on Wednesday the 12th of October.
Beyond Carousel is the much-awaited sequel to last year’s young adult novel Carousel. If you haven’t yet read Carousel you can pick up a copy of that on the night, too!
The book will be launched by fellow author AJ Betts, at a bibliophile’s heaven, Beaufort Street Books. If you’re keen to come along head over to Fremantle Press’ Eventbrite to register for your (free!) ticket.
Brendan will be signing copies of his books on the night.
The Fellowship of Australian Writers Western Australia & Fremantle Press, with support from the Department of Culture and Arts, are holding a panel discussion on the 7th of September.
Brendan will be discussing Youth & Social Media: Going Viral vs Going Off-Grid with fellow author Kate McCaffrey, and Dr Deborah Hunn from Curtin University. The panel will be moderated by Emily Paull, and held at Mattie Furphy House.
“In today’s society, the impact of social media on youth and their interactions with each other and the world-at-large is a continuing issue that warrants inspection. Cyber-bullying, sexting, catfishing, mobbing. Campaigns, social justice, outreach, connection. The platforms with which we engage can bring out the best and the worst in human behaviour. Two authors have explored the idea of social media saturation and social media blackout, and the worlds they have created investigate the challenges teenagers face in managing their social presence.”
